With his expert guidance, we will have the opportunity to craft our own lacquer piece, a truly unique souvenir from our visit. Artist Tran Cong Dung (Dũng Dị) will start with a brief introduction to Vietnamese lacquer art, explaining the technique of eggshell inlay and how it is applied to lacquer art. He will also provide an overview of the tools and materials we will be using in the workshop.
We’ll then dive into the hands-on experience by working on a pre-shaped 20cm wooden lacquer base. Here’s the step-by-step process we’ll follow:
- Designing: Carefully arrange and glue eggshell pieces onto the wooden base to create our own unique design.
- Smoothing & Finishing: With the assistance of the studio team, complete the lacquer process by polishing the surface to achieve a smooth, refined finish, ensuring our piece is beautifully crafted.
The entire process will take around 1.5 – 2 hours, leaving us with a stunning piece of art to take home.

After the workshop, take some time to explore the studio’s collection of lacquer pieces, and perhaps purchase a few unique items as keepsakes.
